The Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has been suspended for 1 year by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Gregory failed multiple drug tests for marijuana. ThatsGoodSports asks the important question, why does the NFL still suspend players for testing positive for weed, when numerous studies show evidence that marijuana can actually help players heal from head trauma, and may also aid in preventing the severity of concussions?

Roger Goodell continues to enforce rules that rob athletes of the hard earned money. This is a policy that needs to change immediately, especially now that 28 states allow the use of medical marijuana. By contrast, wide receiver Michael Floyd, who was cut by the Arizona Cardinals after getting arrested for falling asleep in the driver seat of his car at an intersection with a BAC of .217 will play in the playoffs as a New England Patriot.

ThatsGoodSports believes that after hiding the long term effects of concussions from it’s players that the NFL, at the very least should be pouring money into marijuana research if there is evidence it can help with brain injuries, and there is evidence of that.
